Echoing Legacy : Ndaba Mandela's inspires at 2024 BlackNorth Gala

The BlackNorth Initiative Excellence gala with the theme African Renaissance took place at The Westin Harbour Castle on May 25, 2024. Influential leaders, attendees, and sponsors gathered for an evening of inspiration and recognition.

The keynote speaker, Ndaba Mandela gave a speech which impacted everyone in attendance profoundly. His remarks, which emphasized the value of unity, tenacity, and cultural legacy, struck a profound chord.

He echoed the words of his grandfather, the legendary Nelson Mandela: "To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."

Twitter According to Elon Musk: WHAT ABOUT X

Elon Musk's foray into the social media space with Twitter, which has since been rebranded as X, has been characterized by a number of radical modifications that have left users and professionals in the field wondering what this means. Following Twitter's acquisition in October 2022, Musk assumed the position of CEO and oversaw a dramatic overhaul of the platform until his resignation in June 2023, at which point Linda Yaccarino assumed leadership. Significant changes were implemented by Twitter under Musk's direction, including content control changes that sparked controversy. Several prohibited accounts were restored by the network, including former US President Donald Trump's. Musk's strategy involved cutting almost 80% of the staff, shutting down a data centre, and substituting the community-driven Community Notes, formerly known as Birdwatch, for the content moderation team.

BEVERLEY SALMON:  A legacy of service and inspiration

<p>An ardent community advocate and trailblazer, Beverley Salmon was the first black female municipal Councillor in Toronto. She chaired the National Action Committee on Race Relations for the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Metro's Anti-Racism Access and Equity Committee. As a founding chair of the Toronto Board of Education's Black Liaison Committee, she tirelessly advocated for an inclusive curriculum and anti-racism training for teachers. She was also one of the founders of Caribana. Before venturing into municipal politics, Beverley worked as a public health nurse.</p>
