Launch of NicaPro And Future Reels Network

On October 14, 2025 at CBC Television’s Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, two distinct cultures were united; African and Canadian filmmaking, with the launch of NicaPro and the Future reels Network, founded by Patricia Bebia Mawa and Omoni Oboli. Patricia, an award-winning director and filmmaker here in Canada, and Omoni, an acclaimed actress and producer from Nigeria, came together on this fateful day to announce their groundbreaking project, which will create a bridge between Nigerian and Canadian filmmaking for years to come.

To shed light on these two strong and empowered women, Patricia Bebia Mawa is a powerhouse directress who is the owner of Diamond Plus Media, and co-owner of Afro-Global Television. Her most recent success: The Life Coach film, received over a dozen awards all across the globe, and is an inspiring tale about the struggles of mental health whilst maintaining a public persona. Alongside her is the award-winning actress, writer, director, and producer, Omoni Oboli. Known for her captivating films streamed on YouTube, such as Wives on Strike and Love in Every Word, Omoni is a creative force of energy, always striving for excellence and greatness in whatever she puts her mind to.

Together, the two have launched NicaPro, an initiative to unite Canadian and Nigerian storytelling through film, with the goal to produce six films over the course of the next three years. The films will focus on themes of love, transformation, identity, and resilience, combining the unique aspects of both worlds.

With the launch of NicaPro, Patricia and Omoni are also investing in a non-profit program called The Future Reels Network, a program dedicated to train, mentor, and empower all women looking to advance their careers in film.

As stated by Patricia herself at the launch: “When Omoni and I first sat down together, we knew our stories deserve the world, and the world deserves our stories. NicaPro is that bridge between Nollywood and Canada, where creativity meets excellence to inspire global audiences.” - newswire.ca

About the Future Reels Network, Omoni added: “Through the Future Reels Network, we’re creating pathways for women to learn, collaborate, and lead. Because talent is universal, but opportunity is not.” - newswire.ca

Present at the launch were many distinguished individuals, such as Joan Jenkinson, the Executive Director of The Black Screen Office, who commented: “NicaPro isn’t just a slate of films, it’s a strategy for connection, for shared storytelling, and for building something bigger than either industry could do on their own.” - businessday.ng

Through the efforts of these two inspiring women, NicaPro and the Future reels Network will slowly change the dynamic of filmmaking for both the African and Canadian industries, providing ample opportunities for growth and discovery to those who seek it.

This outstanding project is a display of unity and the appreciation of the two diverse cultures, built on a foundation of trust and equity, and the belief that stories have the power to transform, educate, and inspire us all.
